About the Institute: Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute (RKMVERI) is the first step in the actualization of Swami Vivekananda’s vision that Belur Math would develop into an all-round University. It was declared as an institution deemed- to-be university by the Government of India.  The institute is head quartered at Belur Math, Dist. Howrah (West Bengal) and operates through four different faculty centres located at Belur, Narendrapur, Coimbatore and Ranchi. All these four centres are dedicated to certain unique thrust areas.

About the Faculty Centre: The faculty of ‘Agriculture Rural & Tribal Development’ was established in 2006 at Morabadi, Ranchi with an objective to provide education to gain comprehensive knowledge and develop all round expertise in the important area of rural and tribal development and use them earnestly for the betterment of conditions of our rural and tribal people.

About Divyayan Krishi Vigyan Kendra: Divyayan was recognised by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) as Krishi Vigyan Kendra in 1977. Now Divyayan is well known in Jharkhand and throughout the country for its multifarious rural and tribal development activities. Divyayan received the best KVK award twice from ICAR in 1996-97 and in 2017-18.

India is a country where most of the people live in rural areas. After eight decades of independence, they are still lagging behind the access of minimum requirements of basic needs viz. outdated farming practices, poor road connectivity, unsafe drinking water, lack of electricity, poor health facilities, unhygienic housing condition as well as poverty. According to Swami Vivekananda “our great national sin is the neglect of the masses and that is the cause of our downfall”. Hence, it is an earnest duty to assist the backward, downtrodden and ignorant rural masses for their uplift so that the rural India could be transformed in true sense.

Agriculture and allied activities are the primary occupation since pre-historic era and it is as old as the human civilization. Indian agriculture was solely based on local resources which showed its decline during the colonial regime of British India. Agriculture then suffered because of interference with land ownership and tenure system and gradual Europeanization of Indian agriculture leading to production instability and food insecurity. Hence, India was in absolute need of technological breakthrough that could meet the country’s increasing food requirement. Green Revolution technology came as a boon to the country, helping her to become a ‘food bowl’ from the ‘begging bowl’. But, the input intensive farming, improper post-harvest management and poor arrangement of marketing facilities have made this profession unprofitable today. This has a detrimental effect on present generation, particularly to the young generation who does not show interest in farming and thus, may cause serious adverse effect on the future of agriculture in the country.

Research institutes are expected to come out with technological breakthroughs with renovation of sustainable agricultural techniques. Organic farming has already become a popular option for making the farming a profitable business in several parts of the country. These sustainable agricultural practices not only increase the farm income but also improve the edaphic and environmental quality as well preserve the natural resources and will provide ’safe and nutritious food’ to the country. The objective of the seminar is to raise the present issues, harness different perspectives and find out ways for regeneration of rural India.

Call for Abstracts

Abstracts are invited focusing on the above themes for oral/ poster presentation on or before the last date of submission mentioned in the brochure. The abstracts should be mailed to the Organizing Secretary () with a copy to session convener. Abstracts (not more than 300 words) shall be submitted for oral/ poster presentation. After the acceptance of abstract, authors are requested to send the full-length paper as per guidelines. Full-length paper should be within 10 pages, 1.5 line spacing, in Times New Roman font of 12 points size.

Selected empirical research papers presented during the seminar will be published as an edited volume with ISBN Number/ NAAS rated journal/ proceedings. However, the decision of the jury will be final for selection of papers to be published. For poster presentation the poster should be of 120 cm in length and 90 cm in breadth; preferably in colored Flex/Digital Print. For oral presentation, every speaker will be allotted seven minutes, time.
