Information Input Pattern and Information Needs of the Tribal Lac Cultivators of Jharkhand

The present investigation was carried out in two district of Three villages of Karra ,Angra ,and Torpa block of Khunti and Ranchi district during February-2014 to April-2014. This investigation was completed through questionnaire and personal interview among the selected farmers. This study was completed for the lac cultivators, of the lac cultivators and by the lac cultivators. A sample of 60 lac cultivators was selected purposely based on lac cultivation.
This project report indicates that the socio –economic profile of lac dominated villages. It also reports their socio-economic structure, livelihood through lac cultivation along with technology adoption, and information need for the tribal lac cultivators of the selected villages and to know the information input need for the tribal lac cultivators of Jharkhand as well as source of information utilization pattern. The study was that improved varieties, input materials availability and pest and disease control measures were predominant management practices, storage facilities availability of market. In case of marketing information, Lac cultivators mostly need information about weather information, credit availability timely, and scientific method of cultivation of lac.
Now day’s lac cultivation has become very popular all over the world due to its uses, a source of high income, suitable for ST/SC categories people etc. Scientific methods of lac cultivation provide high income and reduce risk.
Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Divyayan Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Morabadi Ranchi-08,and Indian lac research institute (presently IINRG) Namkum and some other NGOs plays a very important role in developing of lac cultivation through using their available natural resources.
